Different Treadmills

A typical Treadmill

A treadmill is exercise equipment that has a conveyor belt for you to walk, jog or run on, in the convenience of your own home. The machine is popularly used to burn calories at any time of the day without having to step outdoors.

There are 2 kinds of treadmills, namely manual and automatic. The manual treadmill is extremely light and is not as expensive as compared to the automatic treadmill. It is very portable and can be folded back and slid under your bed or into your closet.

The moving runway is wrapped around rollers that are placed inside a raised deck. Walking on it provides the friction needed to move the running belt. As you walk, the belt will move beneath your feet while you remain in place. Rails on either side of the treadmill offer support to the user while the one in front supports the side rails and the conveyor belt.

Automated Treadmills

The automated treadmills are bulkier, more expensive and less portable than their manual counterparts, but they offer a far more superior performance. In this model, an electric powered motor operates the walking belt. You can adjust the speed as per your requirement.

A good quality treadmill has many features that are pre-programmed for beginners as well as advanced users. You can adjust the inclination of the belt to replicate uphill conditions. Some models allow you to produce customized programs to suit your needs with respect to inclination and speed, whereas some others are based on your earlier track records, which will then produce a customized program just for you.

Heart rate monitors on treadmills

Some treadmills have a chest wrap that monitors the heart and produces an inclination accordingly, to keep the heart rate in the desired range. These chest-wrap monitors are built to determine the desired heart rate and some wireless ones also have alarms that go off if the person falls outside the safe range.

The cheaper models in the automatic category require that the inclination be pre-set before you begin your exercise and can be changed only once the exercise comes to a halt.

A treadmill can cost anywhere between US $1500 to $3000 dollars. However, you can also purchase fine quality treadmills with basic features for a cheaper price.

There are a number of advantages that a treadmill has to offer. Apart from being portable and compact, they are the most efficient with regards to burning calories than any other exercise equipment. This is because a treadmill workout simulates running, which burns the maximum amount of calories. Most treadmills allow you to adjust the incline so that you can increase the intensity of the workout.

Walking on a treadmill during pregnancy is also safe. In fact, it helps to shape muscles and toughen joints that support a growing baby. Many models can determine the amount of calories being burnt during the exercise as well as the time and distance traveled.

Treadmill summary

One of the greatest conveniences is that a treadmill can be easily installed in the comfort of your own home, which prevents the frequent trips to the gymnasium. A treadmill is ideal for overall muscle development and also increases the supply of oxygen to the various parts of the body by facilitating the circulation of blood.
